For the last few years, Crittenden Regional Hospital has hosted an Angel Tree program for select students at their Partner-in-Education, Faulk Elementary School. Gifts of clothes, shoes and toys donated by the CRH staff and local businesses are given to each child. This year, our Angel Tree Coordinator, Burnette Paige, added a food drive to benefit the student's families.
The food drive began as a competition between hospital departments but quickly grew to be a blessing for not only the children and their families but also for the employees. As a team effort the Business Office obtained two large donations: five pallets of non-perishable food from Carolina Logistics in Memphis; and seven pallets of toys from Imperial Toys in Memphis. The donations were transported by Carpenter Steel Erectors owned by James Carpenter of West Memphis. The immense pile of goodies was unloaded and sorted by volunteers from the Hospital's Emergency Room, Facility Operations and Business office.
Another large donation came from Mr. Jerry Shipley, owner of "S&S Sales", Inc. who distributes the Keebler and Kellogg brand foods. Mr. Shipley donated peanut butter, crackers and vanilla wafers to each of the families and a goodie bag filled with yummy goodies for each of the 49 children.
The community's generosity reflects the true meaning of the Season and brings food to the table and toys under the tree for many more children this year.
The Angel Tree program was held Friday, December 12 in the Schoettle Center at Crittenden Regional Hospital.
