The Crittenden Regional Hospital Foundation today announced it has received a grant for $2,000 from Esperanza Bonanza, a not-for-profit charitable organization in Marion, Ark.
Grant dollars will support Crittenden Regional Hospital’s Patient Assistance Fund, which provides limited short-term financial assistance to hospital patients. Through the fund, the hospital has been able to approve 14 requests for more than $1,600 in assistance to patients in need in 2009.
Esperanza Bonanza plans and organizes the yearly Esperanza Bonanza Festival, which is a three-day barbecue competition with a golf tournament, a rodeo, live music, a carnival and other activities. Money raised from the 15,000+ people in attendance, is distributed to qualifying not-for-profit organizations throughout Crittenden County.
“Esperanza Bonanza has long been providing incredible support to our community, and we’re thrilled they chose the Foundation to be a grant recipient in this year’s group,” said Chris Chastain, executive director of the Crittenden Regional Hospital Foundation. “The grant will go toward our Patient Assistance Fund, which already has provided help to numerous Crittenden Regional Hospital patients. These funds will help us to further support the needs of patients in our community.”
Founded in 1992, Esperanza Bonanza first started as a small group of local businesses getting together to cook barbecue. Paying tribute to Marion’s heritage as the site of Fort Esperanza, the first European settlement in what is now Crittenden County, the Esperanza Bonanza Festival includes a barbecue festival, rodeo, live music, a golf tournament, carnival and games for children and adults.
