CRH now has the capability of placing PICC lines in our patients, reducing many risks and infections. In June 2008, Sue Young, RN, Sudonna Dye, RN and Racel Lomboy, RN were trained in the placement and care of PICC lines. Julie Swan provides ultrasound during the placement of the line. Appoximately 165 have been placed since this time.
A Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) is a soft, flexible catheter constructed of polyurethane or silicone-based materials, inserted through the peripheral veins of the arms and legs and then advanced into the superior or inferior vena cava. X-ray or fluoroscopic placement verification is required for terminal tip location prior to usage. PICCs are used for all types of intravenous medications and solutions.
We are very excited to offer this service to our patients and proud of our very talented staff.
