CPR, First Aid, & Disaster Preparedness

CPR and First Aid Training

In an effort to combat cardiovascular disease, Delta AHEC North in cooperation with Crittenden Regional Hospital offers a wide range of CPR and First Aid Certifications. Utilizing the American Heart Association curriculums, staff is certified to teach: Friends and Family CPR; Heartsaver CPR; Heartsaver First Aid; and Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals.

Friends and Family CPR is best for children and family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death and those who want to learn rescue skills for loved ones. The course is approximately 4 hours long with small groups the length may be shortened. No written or skills testing is required. A course participation card is awarded at the end of the program but certification is not received through taking this course.

Heartsaver CPR is a certification course for individuals with a duty to respond to a medical emergency, such as employees in the workplace, daycare workers, baby-sitters, police, security guards, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac arrest, and those who need or want to learn CPR. The course takes approximately 6 hours to complete both, adult, child and infant components. A written exam is given and must be passed to receive certification.

Heartsaver First Aid provides pediatric and adult training in basic First Aid, injuries, and medical an environmental emergencies.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals is a certification course for physicians, nurses, dentists, paramedics, EMTs, respiratory therapists, physician assistants, residents, fellows, aides, physical and occupational therapists, or medical or nursing students. The course takes approximately 6-8 hours to complete. with recertification in less than 4 hours. A written exam and skills assessment is required for course completion.

Disaster Preparedness

Delta AHEC also offers Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training on a quarterly basis. CERT Training educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Medical Reserve Corp

Medical Reserve Corp is a team of health professionals prepared to provided secondary emergency care in the event of a significant disaster.
